At its best, masterful design results in the creation of timeless, iconic style. This is seen clearly in some of the most beautiful classic timepieces that we know and love today. Think of the Rolex milsub, Omega Speedmaster, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms etc. 
The list goes on, and in my opinion includes the Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Alarm. And with a pitch perfect tribute available from Jaeger-LeCoultre today, consider it a watch lust.
Originally released in 1959, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Alarm is everything that is right in watch making; thoughtful, reserved design that is remarkably distinct, almost addictive; a unique in house movement; built to do a job, do it well, and look great in the process. Jaeger-LeCoultre has available today an almost exact replica of the Deep Sea first made available in the 50’s, that preserves everything that was so enchanting, and frankly so perfect about the original design.
Powered by an in house caliber 956, 23 jewels automatic movement with alarm function, the Deep Sea Tribute features a dual crown design, mineral crystal and black and feaux-patina coloration throughout. The case is polished steel, with black bezel and dial. Along the bezel are silver numerical hour markings and patina triangular markings at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 positions.
Along the outer rim of the dial you’ll find a band of silver with black numerical minute markings every five minutes, and just inside that silver band are white hash markers at each minute. Finally, at the center of the dial is a black void with a large patina triangle to indicate your alarm function, the Jaeger-LeCoultre logo, and in large italicized lettering are the words, Deep Sea Alarm Automatic.
At about $12,000, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Tribute to the Deep Sea Alarm is well outside my price range at the moment, but just right for a watch lust. It’s rare that a watch, let alone any designed object achieve near perfection as is the case with the Deep Sea Alarm. Its a good thing Jaeger-LeCoultre had the good sense to bring this outstanding piece back to life with a spot on tribute. Now if I could only afford one…
